Walk the South West Coast Path

The South West Coast Path is England's longest national trail and waymarked footpath. It stretches for 1,014 km or 630 miles from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to Poole in Dorset. Here in South Devon, there are 185km or 115 miles. It's some of the most dramatic and stunning scenery, and landscape; hidden coves, secret beaches that you'll find in the UK and it's on our doorstep quite literally. 

The South West Coast Path was originally created by coastguards back in the nineteenth century who were looking out for smugglers who were attempting to land contraband. (Think Poldark!) For centuries it's also been used by fishermen for checking fish shoals and sea conditions. 

Lamacraft Farm Cottages are ideally located a short walk from the coastal path at either South Hallsands or Start Point.  With its iconic lighthouse that is open at various times of the year.  It's an exciting walk along the coastal path here with land owned by the National Trust, local farmers and landowners. There is an abundance of wildlife from the rare Cirl Bunting to Red Kites to Sparrow Hawks, Buzzards, Kestrels and the Skylark in the rolling hedges.  You can choose to walk towards Prawle Point or Beesands. You don't have to walk the coastal path there's a huge network of public footpaths leading to beautiful creeks and lost hamlets. Goodshelter, Lannacombe and South Pool with its lovely gastro pub the Millbrook Inn.
